Meet The Hosts!

Lesley Glennon started learning about whole-food plant based eating several years ago after watching some documentaries.  In 2017 she decided to make this her way of life, and has experienced such great health benefits that she has not looked back! From Lesley: "It feels good to have some control over my health just through what I choose to eat.  Along the way, I've learned that what benefits me personally in terms of my health also benefits animals and the environment!"

Dr. Adriana Raus, MD is a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician that loves being a doctor for the entire family from cradle to cane. She believes that patient-physician relationship has been affected and marginalized by modern medicine and increasing administrative demands.

Dr. Raus was born and raised in Romania, a beautiful country in Eastern Europe, and graduated University Of Medicine: "IULIU HATIEGANU" Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She continued her education in Sparrow Family Medicine Residency where she graduated from and obtained her Family Medicine Board Certification in 2012. After almost 6 years of serving the Owosso community with Memorial Hospital, she ventured to open her own direct primary care practice and bring a new kind of healthcare to the Greater Lansing area.

“I believe that our bodies can heal themselves of most of the diseases if provided with the right fuel and environment. I strongly recommend a whole food plant-based lifestyle to my family, patients, and friends. My goal is to bring the information about WFPB to my patients and community and assist individuals in transitioning to this healing lifestyle. I am looking forward to de-prescribing medications! " - Dr. Adriana Raus

Hi! I am SO HAPPY that you are interested in plant-based nutrition! My name is Nicole Martin and through plant-based nutrition I was able to heal myself. When I was in my late teens my health started to become scary. I had mono, then shingles, diverticulitis, and eventually leading to colitis. I had horrible IBS but thought that there was nothing I could do about it. I wasn't getting the guidance within the traditional medical model so I decided to take my care into my own hands. First, I came across Joe Cross through his documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead in 2010 and that is what started my journey to relief. I was so excited to learn about juicing because I was terrified of eating food. I never knew when my digestive system was going to flair up. And when it did... it was PAINFUL. After starting juicing and feeling so much better, I became obsessed with learning everything I could about nutrition. I found The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell, decided instantly to go whole food plant-based and I have never looked back! Now I have the pleasure of guiding people in achieving freedom with their health. I am co-owner (with Dr. Michael Dangovian) and wellness director of the Wellness Training Institute which is where I host our PBNSG small group meetings. I really hope to meet you soon at our monthly meeting!

Please never hesitate to reach out to our team with any questions!

Meet The Host!

Hello! My name is Anne or VegAnne as I like to be called. I have been whole food plant-based for 9 years. I no longer have ailments I used to think were just a part of getting "older". I continue to enjoy the many health benefits of a plant-based diet and I'm excited to share this knowledge with others.

I became certified in plant-based nutrition to help bring awareness and education to anyone looking to improve their health. I am actively engaged in the Brighton area teaching plant-based cooking classes in my home and community for the past two years. I look forward to continue growing this wonderful community.

Gaia Kile has been a vegetarian for about 40 years and a vegan for nearly 10 years. He is a Family Nurse Practitioner. He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in 1998. He is dedicated to holistic patient-centered care grounded in science-based information. He is passionate about the therapeutic power of lifestyle changes, including Plant based nutrition.  He is currently working on writing a book about plant based nutrition, is involved in an effort to make Ann Arbor a Blue Zone, and hopes to start a plant based journal (reading) group.

Lindsay Merchant.png

Born and raised in Michigan, Lindsay Merchant. is an educator and college counselor by trade with a Masters in the Art of Teaching, which she put to use through her work in urban education in Chicago and Detroit. Her true passion, though, lies with the power of plant-based eating and natural lifestyle habits. She suffered from autoimmune disease for the better part of 20 years, while western medical treatments continuously failed to provide more than temporary relief and horrible side effects. Through a whole-foods, plant-based diet and the use of Ayurvedic medicine, she has nearly put her autoimmune condition into remission. Lindsay started the Ann Arbor Small Group with her co-host Gaia Kile in 2016 and, despite moving to the west side of the state, continues to meet with that group monthly because connecting directly with others for the purpose of better health gives her so much energy! When she’s not talking about plants, researching how to heal with plants, cooking plants or eating plants,

Jeanne Calkins

"I began my life changing journey in November of 2010 after leaving my Doctors office knowing that if I did not make drastic changes I was looking at Insulin for Type 2 Diabetes.

I have since then lost 158 pounds, and no longer take any medications for Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol. I did all of this by changing the food I eat and becoming physically active.

Although I did not start out on a Plant-Based Whole Food diet, during my quest to change my health through lots of research and study I decided to adopt the WFPB way of eating not only for health reasons for my self and my husband but for the health and welfare of animals and Planet Earth!

It is my desire to help everyone I can by being a living example of how food really is your medicine!

I am also currently seeking my certification in Plant-based nutrition and also becoming a Food For Life Certified Trainer."

Kailey Lang is a student at MSU studying dietetics. Her path towards seeking this degree has been greatly influenced by the plant-based diet. After doing a lot of research, she adopted a plant-based diet in the spring of her freshman year of college. The most influential books in her research on a plant-based diet were How Not to Die, by Dr. Michael Gregor, and The Plant Based Solution, by Dr. Joel Kahn.  While making this change, she began working at jobs that gave her experience with health coaching and production of health products, even creating juice recipes and cleanses for a local business. She has developed a passion for helping others learn about plant-based nutrition and is thrilled to be hosting a small group!

Meet The Host!

My name is Sheri Schoenfield. I began my whole food plant based (WFPB) journey in 2016 after seeing Dr. Joel Fuhrman on PBS. I was still recovering from my 3rd back surgery and hoped maybe eating a WFPB diet could help with inflammation as well as the chronic pain caused by my rapidly degenerating spine. At the time I wasn’t even really thinking about how it would affect my weight or the other myriad of health issues I had including high blood sugar, high blood pressure, glaucoma, and heart disease just to name a few. After witnessing the benefits of this lifestyle first hand I am compelled to share what I have learned with others. Whether you are just curious about this way of eating, new to WFPB or an expert whole foodie I look forward to seeing you soon!

Leslie+Pic.jpg

Leslie DeRemer is a retired elementary school principal who grew up in Hazel Park, Michigan. Education has been the focus of her life. She would like to use her skills as an educator to spread the good word about the benefits of a healthy plant based lifestyle. PBNSG is the perfect vehicle to deliver the message. Leslie became involved in PBNSG a few years ago, attending classes, large presentations and small groups. She was very honored to be asked to serve as the Director of Volunteers and enjoys working with this amazing group of dedicated people. Leslie is also a small group host for the Almont/Lapeer/Imlay City/Romeo area. She is very passionate about sharing a whole food plant based lifestyle with others. Her ever growing knowledge on the subject came about after years of research and formal classes. She became a raw food nutritionist over eight years ago and continues to attend food preparation classes, recently completing the Forks Over Knives culinary course.

Leslie also promotes exercise as a means to maintain a healthy body. She runs, lifts weights, plays tennis, hikes and enjoys yoga. She also rides her bicycle on a regular basis, completing the 52 mile Zoo-de-Mac and 42 mile Beaver Island bike events. Each year she and her plant based, bicycle riding husband would like to add to the list of cycling events.

In her spare time, Leslie enjoys riding her Harley with her husband David. She also belongs to a women’s motorcycle riding group called Stilettos on Steel. They ride for pleasure, as well as ride for important causes all across the state. Her spare time is also filled with family camping trips. She recently purchased a toy hauler and is looking forward to taking the Harleys on adventures across the United States.

Gaia AA.jpg

Meet The Host!

me pbnsg.png

Please never hesitate to reach out to our team with any questions!
