Dr. Tom Rifai
Dr Tom Rifai, Cofounder of "Reality Meets Science" healthy lifestyle system, is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Medical Director of Metabolic Nutrition and Weight Management for St Joseph Mercy Oakland hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. He is distinguished as a Harvard Medical School course in Lifestyle Medicine: ("Nutrition in the Metabolic Syndrome"). The one hour CME course is designed to teach doctors and health care providers how to help patients prevent type 2 diabetes with science based motivation and practical lifestyle changes.
Dr Rifai served two terms on the board of directors for the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists. He is also certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Since graduating from Beaumont Hospital Internal Medicine residency program in 2003, Dr Rifai has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine and has been invited on multiple occasions to provide lectures medical students on nutrition interventions for Metabolic Syndrome and weight management as well as provide senior medical students real-world clinical experience in his metabolic practice.
Dr Rifai currently serves as a Nutrition Consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Publications and his appearance in the documentary film "The Embrace of Aging - the male perspective" while in Sardinia, Italy was touted as one of the most memorable parts of the film (EmbraceOfAging.com).
Dr Rifai serves the public by donating his time as a gratis consultant to 2 Michigan public schools. In the Birmingham, Michigan system, he has achieved a major milestone by educating the school district about, and then lobbying successfully to eliminate, ultra fatty ("80/20") ground beef in favor of more reasonable, leaner 90/10 beef along with a push towards simply using less beef as a protein source.
