Sleep Apnea is a condition where your airway closes off, preventing air from entering your lungs, causing a lowering of blood oxygen levels, and interrupting normal sleep stages. This leads to many medical problems, from strokes to heart disease, diabetes and even death. Apnea sufferers typically snore, sometimes gasp for breath, and wake up un-refreshed. They are typically more tired and fatigued, more forgetful, and susceptible to the grave danger of the airway collapsing if not treated. Traditional treatment for Sleep Apnea is a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) device. However more than 60% of the people who start with CPAP cannot tolerate it for long.  A second option, aside from surgery, is ORAL APPLIANCE THERAPY.   However there  are over 100 FDA approved appliances and many of them can cause more harm than good, resulting in jaw pain or tooth shifting. That is why it is so important to go to a dentist with advanced training and certification by the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
