PBNSG is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to evidence-based education and advocacy of plant-based whole food nutrition and an active lifestyle, to help prevent or reverse chronic disease and achieve optimal health.
Pamela A. Popper, Ph.D., N.D.
Dr. Pam Popper is an internationally known expert on diet, health and nutrition. She’s appeared in numerous documentaries including the critically acclaimed Forks Over Knives; has a weekly spot on the award-winning PBS show Jazzy Vegetarian; and is a New York Times bestselling author. Her most recent book is Food Over Medicine. Dr. Popper is the Executive Director of Wellness Forum Health based in Columbus Ohio.
Howard Jacobson, Ph.D. Coach
Howard Jacobson’s website is the popular www.plantyourself.com where he is host of the Plant Yourself Podcast. He has done over 140 long form podcasts with Plant-Based luminaries including Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, Juliana Heaver, John Robbins, Lani Muelrath, Rich Roll, Katie May and our own Kerrie Saunders and Joel Kahn. He co-authored of Proteinaholic with Garth Davis and Whole with T. Colin Campbell. In his coaching, he empowers people to take control over their own health destinies.
Dr. Michael Dangovian, DO
For over twenty years, Dr. Michael Dangovian has been working with patients in a unique way, integrating yoga, meditation, supplements and education into a traditional cardiology practice. The Wellness Training Institute was born from the personal experiences of Dr. Dangovian recovering from a back injury and unanswered questions. He found that both modern medicine and scientifically-proven ancient healing arts are two necessary and highly effective areas that overlap to bring optimum health to clients. His passion is bringing health and wholeness to people who’ve given up on the medical system, who’ve found no answers anywhere else.
Joel K. Kahn, M.D. is the Founding Medical Director, and a driving force behind PBNSG who has two featured columns. His goal is to prevent 1 million heart attacks through lifestyle education for optimal health and longevity. He is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He is a cardiologist, a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University, and Director of Cardiac Wellness, Michigan Healthcare Professionals PC.
Robert Breakey, MD
Dr. Breakey is a practicing Family Practitioner in Ypsilanti, MI. Dr. Breakey graduated from University of Michigan School of Medicine in 1981 and has been in practice for over 30 years taking care of patients of all ages. He completed a residency at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He currently practices at IHA Family Medicine and is affiliated with St Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital and University of Michigan Health System. Dr. Breakey is board certified in Family Medicine.
Dr. Robert Breakey was born in Hawaii, but moved to Ann Arbor at the age of 1 ½ years old where he attended kindergarten thorough medical school. He has had a long time interest in plant based nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and holistic approaches to healthcare and positive wellness.
Dr. Tarman Aziz, MD and Cancer Warrior Anna Rusinowski
For the past 4 years Dr. Tarman Aziz has served as an Integrative Health Consultant, providing lectures across the country for groups such as Forks Over Knives and the Hippocrates Health Institute, as well as working with clients one on one to help them achieve their health and wellness goals.
Upon diagnosis of breast cancer, Anna decided to seek the unconventional treatment of holistic methods such as detox, a raw food diet and emotional work. She was treated at Hippocrates Health Institute (HHI) in January 2015 where she gained knowledge and personal success in natural healing modalities - which is where she also met her now boyfriend Dr. Tarman Aziz.
Named one of 2009’s “25 Fittest Men in the World” by MEN’S FITNESS MAGAZINE, Rich is one of the world’s most popular world-class ultra endurance triathletes, a widely regarded plant-based nutrition & wellness advocate, writer, public speaker, podcast host, husband and father of 4. After a struggle with alcoholism and 20 year respite from competitive sports since his days as a swimmer at Stanford University in the 1980’s, in 2008 Rich adopted a plant-based diet, shed 50 pounds and launched a middleaged assault on the Ultraman World Championships. In late 2012, Rich launched the wildly popular RICH ROLL PODCAST. In April 2015, Rich and his vegan chef wife Julie released their first cookbook, THE PLANTPOWER WAY.
